Managing units of measurement with My Inventory Online

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

You may not always sell items in the same way that you buy them e.g. Your supplier may only sell items by the pallet but your customers only need single items. Luckily My Inventory Online gives you a simple solution to this problem.

While editing a product find the 'Units of Measure' section. You have 3 possible units of measure you can set:

Standard Units: Specifies the unit in which a product is tracked across the system. e.g. Case

Sales Units: Specifies the standard unit on sales orders e.g. Each. This can always be overridden while creating an order. Simply set how many of these units equal one of your standard units e.g. 12 Each = 1 Case

Purchasing Units: Specifies the standard unit on purchase orders e.g. Pallet. This can always be overridden while creating an order. Simply set how many of these units equal one of your standard units e.g. 0.1 Pallets =  1 Case (10 cases per pallet).

In our example we have 3 distinctly different units of measurement (each, case, pallet) all working together. All the conversions in price and adjustment quantities are handled for you!
